2025 Crown Wing County Mounted Patrol
May 2, 3 & 4 2024
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol, established in 1985, is a dedicated volunteer organization comprising active riding members and auxiliary members. This team plays a vital role in search and rescue operations, crowd control, security, and public relations. They are a visible presence at community events such as parades and the Crow Wing County Fair, and they also provide mutual aid to neighboring counties when needed.
Riding members supply their own horse, trailer, and tow vehicle, covering expenses personally. Both riders and their horses undergo annual testing to ensure they meet rigorous horsemanship and performance standards. Auxiliary members, who do not ride, offer invaluable support and assistance to the patrol's efforts.
Each year, the Mounted Patrol hosts one of Minnesota's largest training clinics, enhancing the skills of their team and others in the community. Their operations are funded entirely through tax-deductible donations and member-organized fundraising events, which cover costs for equipment, tack, and training. This dedicated group exemplifies community service and teamwork, providing invaluable assistance to Crow Wing County and beyond.

Hosting private 3-day horsemanship clinics with a focus on ground control and riding offers participants a comprehensive experience to deepen their understanding and skills in natural horsemanship. These clinics provide a personalized learning environment, where attendees can work closely with their horses, receiving tailored guidance from an experienced instructor. For the Crow Wing County Mounted Patrol, we customized the clinic to meet the unique needs of their team, emphasizing skills critical for search and rescue, crowd control, and public service scenarios. Groundwork sessions focused on building trust and clear communication between horse and rider, ensuring the horses remain calm and responsive in high-pressure environments. Participants practiced leading, lunging, and body control techniques designed to enhance safety and confidence in unpredictable situations. The riding portion of the clinic was tailored to improve balance, precision, and responsiveness. Exercises included navigating obstacles, maintaining control in crowded settings, and practicing cues essential for patrol duties. Riders gained valuable tools to build their confidence, refine their skills, and strengthen their partnerships with their horses. By personalizing the clinic for the Mounted Patrol, we provided a supportive, hands-on experience that prepared them to excel in their vital roles while fostering a deeper connection with their equine partners.
